Neither EMD or GE ever came close to Alco when it came to good-looking sheetmetal though. GE didn't get aesthetically pleasing engines until the 1990's. The U-boats had their cabs too far forward, and the Dash series had excessively small side windows on excessively square cabs. It wasn't 'till the AC units started production with wide cabs that GE finally figured out how to make a good-looking engine.
